  Telehealth Update

  February 25, 2025

  Through March 31, 2025, you can get telehealth services at any location in the U.S., including your home. Starting April 1, 2025, you must be in an office or medical facility located in a rural area (in the U.S.) for most telehealth services. If you aren't in a rural health care setting, you can still get certain Medicare telehealth services on or after April 1.

  Updated Hospital Reporting Requirements for Respiratory Viruses

  Beginning November 1, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will require hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) to electronically report information, like confirmed infections and bed capacity, related to flu, COVID-19 and RSV, on a schedule specified by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

  Change Healthcare Security Incident

  February 27, 2024

  The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and National Government Services, Inc. (NGS) are aware that Change Healthcare recently suffered a cyber-attack. Change Healthcare is a clearinghouse vendor that connects providers with insurance payers and has operations that impact the submission of Medicare claims, including NGS. At this time, there is no indication that NGS’ systems have been compromised. This is not a CMS or NGS incident.

  Gender-Specific Services: Billing Correctly and Usage of the Condition Code/Modifier

  CMS may reject or return Medicare Part A and Part B claims inappropriately if it appears there’s a mismatch between the procedure or diagnosis code and the reported sex of the patient.  This is a reminder to institutional providers and clinicians that bill for Part B professional claims that a condition code/modifier are available to allow these claims to process correctly.

  This year the Wisconsin Hospital Association Information Center (WHAIC) marks its 20th year of collecting and reporting discharge, financial and other types of data from all Wisconsin hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). And for two decades, WHAIC has been making that information publicly available at no cost to taxpayers.
